The majority of the mittens are collected from Latvian countryside and the original designer, the countrywoman who knitted the mittens, doesn't get any credit for her work or design... I don't think I get a copyright over the pattern of a mitten in museum I copy... the copyright should belong to the unknown folk woman who "designed" the mitten some 100 years ago. They too saw others patterns and copied them, copied patterns from books, transformed cross stitch patterns into knitting and vice versa, put in their works things they had seen in church, in others' works, in nature... and to me that is exactly what I do when I copy things from Internet.
To me copyright theft is if I copy a pattern and claim to be the designer. I don't claim to be the designer of my Yule Stockings because I have found each and every design from internet, books and so on, even though it is me who decided in which order to knit them, how wide and which colors to use.
There is also a thing called "reasonable use". I may take photocopies of books to my own use without it being a copyright violation.
So, dobbeltmoralsk, nej, det tycker inte jag. :-)Ketutarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17817006362006690145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5451111994506213994.post-45589362602619240882008-02-16T23:22:00.000+01:002008-02-16T23:22:00.000+01:00The Latvian Mittens book is so fabulous.
